StarStarStarStarStar 655 Headset
User: Joe Miles, Mar 26, 2007

Pros:  Good quality when it works
Cons:  -

The headset is great when it works. The earpiece(both the mold and the metal stablizer)fall off all the time--very easy to lose. The range is advertised at 30 feet but you get lots of static after 4 feet. Picks up alot of background noise. Definitely not worth the money due to all the problems.
StarStarStarStarStar Nearly perfect
User: Eric Banks, Dec 7, 2006

Pros:  Size, styling, secure fit
Cons:  charger/carrying case

This is my 3rd BT headset and I think it's one of the best on the market. I hated my first, a Moto H500, because it never felt secure on my ear. It felt like an anchovy flopping against my ear. My next, a Cellpoint Flamingo, fit great and was extrememly comfortable. However, it was extremely sensitive to background/wind noise and looked funny.

The Plantronics fits my ear pretty well even without the ear hook. It's not quite as secure feeling as the Flamingo though. The sound quality is much better though. The background noise suppression is outstanding.

I also love the "lipstick" case holder/charger. I think its a great way to keep track of the headset. My only complaint is that the ear-gel faces the back of the holder where the pocket clip is mounted. The eargel extends out behind the clip and thus rubs against wherever you have it clipped. My worry is that the plastic part of ear gel will break off and render the headset unusable. That is the only thing keeping me from giving this headset 5 stars.
StarStarStarStarStar not bad for the $ shop around and you can find a better price

Very comfy, the vibrating carrier is great. However, when in the wind people still complain the conversation isnt the best and some have a hard time hearing. I found it on the web for 39.99 some do some research, thats the main reason i bought it. I couldnt beat the price i found.
StarStarStarStarStar Dont let the great Company Name or Features distract you from LACK of basic FUNCTION
User: Meticulous Technical-Owner, Jul 26, 2008

Pros:  Light Weight, Good Received Sound, Comfortable, NICE Charger(s)
Cons:  Frail, Poor Durability, No Replacement Parts, Poor Service, Locks-Up

The sound quality is GREAT (for the user). EVERY conversation I have with someone else, though, is not very good & I have to shut off head set & pick up phone. I am told "You sound like youre in a wind tunnel" or the noise cancelling cuts out every other word & Im told "It sounds like youre in a helicopter."
It was COMFORTABLE to wear all day, but even my over-protective, cautious, meticulous-care, minimal-use self wore the headset out. I bet I used the device less than a cumulative week over 3 years (mostly b/c of difficulties).
The ear bud silicone fell off repeatedly. The more it happens the easier it occurs. I agree w/ previous "shatter" writer. I have had several "fall out" mishaps and have resorted to using the over-ear loop (NOT as comfortable) instead to prevent device falling out of my ear. I tried to replace silicone ear bud (which one would think would be a cheap, easy replacement part to keep for expensive ear pieces), but I have been unable to locate replacement from OEM, online, or retail shops. One cant properly repair a broken Discovery, only buy an entirely new replacement headset package (which I wont do b/c the first had poor quality, despite top price, repeatedly falls apart, and the company offers poor customer support, outside of their website) IMO, why make the same mistake repeatedly?
Also, the device is NOT easy to move between blue tooth devices. Once you sync it to one phone (like work) and try to go into car to sync it to another (like personal) phone, it wont happen. Either it will never "let go" of the 1st connection, no matter what you do to phone. Or, if you mess with the headset, it will freeze up, locked on 1st phone, yet still unusable even by 1st phone.
The synchronization process is, or SHOULD be, easy BUT reality and theory are 2 different things. Set-up does not perform as it is stated to, at least RELIABLY. I have had the headset, on MULTIPLE (10) occasions lock-up, where I am unable to turn it off/on or any which way. I had to move headset far enough away from any blue tooth device, so as not to interfere or get stimulated, and wait a few days (the down side of a good battery life) for the device to run out of power. THEN, it forced itself off. I recharged the device and all but 2 times, lock-out was reset after draining the power. But, none-the-less, device was unusable for almost a week.
So to be POSITIVE: The device does have tremendous battery life. The charging system is GREAT. You can move charger from car, to PC, to home, to even AAA battery charge. It charges very quickly & easily, & holds the charge a long time (DAYS, probably a week with minimal use). The ear piece is light and comfortable to wear all day, provided the ear bud holds up more than a dozen uses and/or stays in your ear.
I really have a love/hate relationship with headset. I bought it when it was brand new, top-of-the-line, over $150. Obviously the price has come down, but the new varieties Ive demod do the same problematic things. Not much changed in 4 years.
The sound for the wearer/user is great. But the durability, lack of back-up support options, and poor sound quality for the receiving person leaves a lot to be desired with this headset.
This is hard to write, but its honest. I spent a lot of time on this review to be fair & help you readers. I LOVE the Plantronics name, I own/use many plantronics devices both at home & work, and even own stock in the company. I love their in office products for phone/computer, and even home headsets. So I feel bad to report negative comments, but they are the truth. By the way, the same problems are true of the "BlackBerry 655" marketed variety of this headset. (Yes, I tried THAT as an alternative, too thinking I possibly had an isolated lemon. Nope! Theres a real pattern.)
All-in-all, the Discovery 655/665 is a great-but-awful headset.
The “Bells & Whistles” features are great, the company name is top-notch, comfortable fit above most other headsets, and wearer-received sound quality is good. Unfortunately, in my assessment, the multiple, recurring, common problems, without any offered Plantronics fix(es), despite being advised of them, tips the balance, causing problems to outweigh the benefits. In fact, the Discovery headsets have logged more down-time than working-time, between my mobile employees and me, despite even having different personal mobile phones and wireless carriers. (We all have BB’s, of course, for our corporate work.) I have troubleshot this thing, ad nauseam, and am still without a working headset, or a clue how to resolve the current one’s problems. I hope you all have better luck finding a good wireless mobile headset.

[I apologize for the length here. There are so many problems, short-citing it would not paint a clear picture for you. I am not usually the review-writer type, either. But this headset dilemma has had me SO frustrated, for SO long, that I can’t stand to think that anyone else could walk into the same situation blindly -- especially if it was because I didn’t want to “bash” someone’s product, hurt my own stock prices, or spend my personal time to write it it. Your fair reviews have been helpful to me in the past, so I am returning the favor, as much as it pains me to do so. Sorry, but I am one with integrity at least.]
StarStarStarStarStar Sound quality outweighed by poor features
User: Brian S, Feb 16, 2010

Pros:  Sound quality
Cons:  Button function, background noise reduction, comfort

Extremely tiny earpiece, the button function for accepting/ending calls is very stiff and causing you to push the earpiece into your ear in order to push the button. Sound quality on users end is good, however the other party always complained of background noise. Even driving in the car resulted in excessive background noise. The piece is not comfortably for long periods of time. Overpriced and fails to perform.
